In this summer, the non-profit arts centre Vincom Centre for Contemporary Art opens their first exhibition “The Foliage”.

From 6th June to 6th August 2017, the first exhibition “The Foliage” is launched at Vincom Centre for Contemporary Art (VCCA) in Vincom Megamall, Royal City, Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi. The centre is open from 9:30 to 20:00 from Monday to Friday and from 9:30 to 21:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the organization department, the name “The Foliage” represents “life, proliferation; a joyful song about the spirit of pervasion; solidity; branches, concentric circles endlessly spreading…”. At “The Foliage”, there are works of 19 artists in a variety of forms such as painting, sculpture, video-art and installation art.

VCCA’s goals are to create the opportunities for Vietnamese public to access to contemporary art and to build up a vibrant artistic environment that contributes to the cultural life in Vietnam. They collect and preserve Vietnamese works of artistic and historical values, create a playground for artists as well as introduce new artistic trends.

Hoang Thuy Dieu, 22 years old, one of the visitors, shared some of her experience: “Most of artworks are abstract but not too difficult to understand. I’m impressed by the work “Love Love Love”. At first, the pillows look normal, but when I see them nearly, I realize they are made of concrete. I’m very surprised because they look soft like the real things. What a special work!”

As stated in the description of the artwork, “Love Love Love” shows the “unbearable lightness of emotional state of being in love” with “frustrating, elating, rewarding, heartbreaking… all at once”.

The centre is developed and fully funded by Vingroup. Its exhibition area, “spreading” like a maze, includes many open and close spaces with suitable light for each space: some are exposed to natural light, some are in darkness. Every piece of art is made of diverse materials and through different methods, contributing to its uniqueness. Below are some other works.
